More wisdom from Joseph Ratzinger

Bread made of many grains contains also an event of union: the ground grain becoming bread is a process of unification. We ourselves, many as we are, must become one bread, one body, as Saint Paul says (cf. 1 Cor 10:17). In this way the sign of bread becomes both hope and fulfillment.

—Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI)

from his book, Signs of New Life: Homilies on the Church’s Sacraments

VISIBLE SIGNS OF INVISIBLE GRACE

In this collection of homilies, Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) explains the sacraments of the Church and shows how they always offer an opportunity to announce our faith in Christ and to deepen our understanding of it. Ratzinger endeavored as a theologian to develop an understanding of the sacraments that would help to make participation in them, and in the Paschal Mystery, more fruitful.
